Donegan Accounts for Five Goals to Lead High Powered Saxon Offense Past Thiel

GREENVILLE, PA – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team made the trek to Thiel College for a Thursday night matchup with the Tomcats. The Saxons improved to 3-0 on the young season with an impressive 21-6 win.

 

Sophomore Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) continued his dominant start to the season with his third straight game of at least four goals. Donegan accounted for seven points on the night; totaling five goals and two assist to lead the Saxons.

 

Patrick Brewer (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling) recorded his second straight hat trick and added one assist.

 

Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) scored two goals and assisted on two others. 

 

Jack Chapman (Elmira, NY/Notre Dame) finished with two goals and an assist while Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post)added two goals.

 

Anthony Ricotilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) chipped in one goal and two assists while Frank Gavigan (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) andJason Berardicurti (Rochester, NY/Penfield) both had one goal and one assist. 

 

Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling), Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads)all scored one goal. Briggs added a team high 11 ground balls and was an efficient 20-23 on face offs. 

 

Jeremiah Kinner (Bath, NY/Haverling) and Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) each forced five Thiel turnovers to lead AU.

 

Gage Ponsetti (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) picked up the win in goal for Alfred and finished with two saves. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had four stops in the net in 30 minutes.

 

Alfred jumped out early again in this one taking a 7-2 lead after the first quarter.

 

The Saxons gave up just one goal late in the second quarter and extended their lead by 10 at halftime.

 

AU outscored Thiel 8-3 in the second half and rolled to its third straight lopsided victory.

 

The Saxons will have a little over a week off before hosting Ohio Northern University next Saturday, March 16, at Yunevich stadium. That one is set to begin at 1PM.
